Texas ranks second in labor force and population so it should be no surprise that the state is expected to outpace the projected national annual job growth average of 1.4%, increasing by an average of 176,146 jobs per year from 2000-2010.

According to the Texas Labor Market Force, employment is projected to increase from 9.7 million to 11.5 million over the period.  The Services industries will account for more than half of all new jobs during the projected period, a continuation from the previous decade.

Employment in the Services industries is expected to increase from 3.6 million jobs in 2000 to 4.5 million jobs in 2010.  Over 70% of this growth will be in Business Services, Health Services, and Educational Services.

It is expected that the greatest number of jobs added to Business Services will be in the Personnel Supply Services.  The 103,960 jobs make a growth rate of over 40%.

Computer & Data Processing Services and Miscellaneous Business Services are expected to have growth rates of over 55% and 40% respectively, some of the largest growth among all industries.

The Health Services sector is projected to add 191,050 jobs.
